Exercises for counting to ten

Counting is the process of determining the number of elements in a collection of objects. Counting involves not only learning numbers themselves, but also understanding the meaning of numbers. When kids could match numbers with a certain amount of items, they really started developing their counting skills dramatically. They are getting to understand the actual concept of numbers and counting. Learning to count with understanding is crucial, but other related skills also need to develop alongside counting to provide a firm foundation of number sense. One such skill is perceiving subgroups. Asking kids to count objects presented in various different arrangements can prompt different mental strategies.

This worksheet provides several exercises for counting, while each exercise group contains at most 10 apples or stars, organized in different patterns. Kids can use these exercises to practice counting up to 10. The more experience kids have with counting, the faster they will understand and master counting skills.
